Mumbai, August 2004, 12.30 p.m., a regular rush hour on the Western Railway route but something uncertain and unusual engulfed the crowd in utmost silence. A lady vegetable vendor who boarded the train from Malad was about to deliver a baby in the luggage compartment. The train was halted at Khar Station with loud appeals for a lady doctor anywhere in the train. This was the time for our good samaritan Dr. Zainab Khan* to take charge. She not only helped in getting the baby delivered safely in the luggage compartment but also ensured the lady and baby get admitted at Bhabha Hospital for further treatment.
She made us all proud. Dr. Zainab Khan, a qualified doctor and earlier on a MESCO Educational Adoption Scheme student, had helped someone unknown for the sake of humanity. She helped in saving a life. But for her to become a doctor, was the result of Zakat contribution of so many well wishers, which helped her to be what she is today a useful citizen of society.
Your Zakat will produce many more Zainabs.
MESCO is a Mumbai based registered non-political, non-profit making NGO working since 1968, doing its little bit to help marginalized students, last year MESCO supported the education of 1785 students.
