Arabic Teaching in India
|Jamia Millia Islamia holds a three week refresher course for teachers of modern Arabic in Indian universities
A three-week refresher course in Arabic was organised in the Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, under the auspices of the UGC during October-November. This was the seventh course which is now almost an annual feature aimed at keeping teachers of Arabc in Indian universities abreast of lastest trends in the teaching and literarature of modern Arabic. As usual, participants from different universities and colleges from across the country attended the course.
Speaking in the inaugural session, Prof. Shafiq Ahmad Khan Nadwi, head of the deparment of Arabic, focussed on the relevance of teachers’ training and presented guidelines on the principle of curricula-development and teaching methodology. Teachers of various themes and subjects at the course included Prof. Zubair Ahmad Farooqi, Prof. Ziaul Hassan Nadwi, Prof. SM Ijtiba Nadwi, Prof. Naqi Hussain Jafri, Prof. Shahabuddin Ansari, Dr Zafarul-Islam Khan, Prof. Nisar Ahmad Farooqi, Dr. Habibullah Khan, Dr. Farhana Siddiqi, Prof. Muhammad Aslam Islahi, Dr Faizanullah Farooqi, Prof. Muhammad Sulaiman Ashraf, Prof. Rafiel Imad Faynan and Talib Jum’a Dafal’llah. Apart from attending lectures, each participant was asked to review a book and prepare a seminar paper on the problems of Arabic teaching in India.
