The Vice Chancellor has approved the appointment of Professor Azarmi Dukht Safavi, of the department of Persian, as editor of Fikr-o-Nazar. She replaces Dr Salim Qidwai of the Department of Islamic Studies.

The VC has made the following new appointments:
* Professor Mohibbullah, Department of Electrical Engineering, ZH College of Engineering and Technology as member-in-charge (telephones) for a period of two years following the resignation of Prof Muzaffar A. Siddiqui. 
* Professor Saleemuddin, Department of Bio-Chemistry in the life sciences faculty as member-in-charge of Dawakhana Tibbiya College, with immediate effect, for a period of two years.
*Professor Ali Mohammad, Department of Geography as member-in-charge of Students' Stationery Mart, for a period of two years, with immediate effect,on usual terms and conditions. 
*Professor Azduddin Khan, Department of Islamic Studies at the AMU as the Provost ,S.S.Hall (North), for a period of two years following the resignation of Prof M.Qamruddin.

New provost
Prof. Muzaffar A Siddiqi has been appointed as the new provost of the Sulaiman hall. Prof. Siddiqi is a professor in the electronic engineering department. He is appointed in the place of Dr Mukhtar Ahmad who resigned recently. 

Indian Journalistic language
A three-day seminar on 'Development in Indian Journalistic language' was organized by the Linguist Society of India at the university. Vice Chancellor Hamid Ansari, while inaugurating the seminar said that India is the only country in the world where seventeen languages have been accorded national status. He said that every language has its own background and history. He said that in the making of language and its development, journalism plays very important role. He also said that all papers including the most famous in the world, have changed over a period of time to keep them on the right track. He also said that the language of books and journalism differ on a number of things.
Director of National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language Hamidullah Bhat said that after more than fifty years of India's independence we have not been able to synchronize different languages. Prof. Sinha of Delhi University said that people who are attached with journalism do not have enough time to see dictionaries. So they use words they think appropriate. It helps a lot in broadening the language further. 

Admission in professional courses
The University has denied that the Academic Council has decided to reduce the admission in different professional courses. On the other hand the authorities say that they have asked the academic council to increase the intake in different professional courses. The decision in this regard will be taken shortly. The university spokesman has also denied the news reports that there has been a downward movement in application for admission in the university. 

Mr Danish Ali Khan and Mr Saleem Siddiqui,member of the AMU Hockey Club have been selected to represent U.P. and Nagaland state teams respectively in the ongoing senior hockey championship.

Conference on Water Resources
Dr Abdul Wahab and Dr Mohammad Abdus Salam of the Economics Department at the Aligarh Muslim university have attended the international Conference on ‘Sustainable development of Water Resources: socio-economic, institutional and environmental aspects’ in New Delhi recently. More than two hundred delegates from different countries of the World attended the conference. The focal theme of the conference was on socio-economic ,institutional and environmental issues related to sustainable development and management of water resources, its multiple uses viz.drinking water, irrigation, hydropower and flood management etc.

An exhibition of TALAT SHAKEEL'S paintings was held on the occasion of the annual program of the SN Hall, a residential hostel for women in the university. Hamid Ansari, the vice chancellor inaugurated the exhibition on 4 December. He appreciated the artist and said that her paintings show that an excellent artist is in the making. Talat Shakeel has done M Phil from the Department of Fine Arts of the AMU and is doing PhD here.
