Brief Notes
Bomb London if you are serious...
Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi said that the US might just as well bomb London if it is serious about fighting terrorism. "If the United States wants seriously to eradicate terrorism, the first capital that should be pounded with cruise missiles is London," Colonel Gaddafi said on al-Jazeera. If the United States knows who attacked it, then it would have the right to retaliate against him. "It is the shelter of terrorism," he added, referring to charges that Islamic militants suspected of violence are protected by Britain's policies on political asylum.
Son of former president embraces Islam
Deno Delano Bouterse, son of the former president of Surinam, embraced Islam last month in the office of the Islamic Call Society and took the name of Muhammad Saeed. A total of 217 of his followers too embraced Islam subsequently.
'Great progress’ to continue in 2002
President Bush on 21 Dec. said that great progress had been made in his “war on terrorism'' but warned that peace was not at hand. “Next year will be a war year as well because we're going to continue to hunt down these al Qaeda people in this particular theatre, as well as other places,'' he said.
Washington has identified more than 60 countries with al Qaeda cells in them. “Our war against terror extends way beyond Afghanistan. And at some point in time maybe some president will come and say you have the expertise that we don't, would you mind maybe have some of your troops with ours. And the answer is, 'you bet,''' Bush said.
Infinite freedom: US uni. sacks professor
University of South Florida at Tampa has fired Prof Sami Al-Arian who teaches computer sciences. He has not been charged with any offence nor has the university found him guilty through any formal enquiry. His dismissal comes as a sharp reminder of the paranoid US where no dissent is tolerated since 9-11. Like every Muslim on the face of this earth, Prof A-Arian is guilty of supporting a Palestine free from Zionist
occupation.
‘Don't worry...we control America’
An acrimonious argument erupted during an Israeli cabinet meeting early last October between Zionist Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and his foreign Minister Shimon Peres during which Sharon reportedly yelled at Peres: "don't worry about American pressure, we control America."
According the Israeli Hebrew radio, Kol Yisrael on 3 Oct. 2001, Peres warned Sharon that refusing to heed incessant American requests for a cease-fire with the Palestinians would endanger Zionist interests and turn the US against us. At this point, a furious Sharon reportedly turned toward Peres, saying: "every time we do something you tell me America will do this and will do that…I want to tell you something very clearly: don't worry about American pressure on the Zionist state, we, the Jewish people, control America, and the Americans know it."
