Muslims protest Jaish attack
New Delhi: Indian Muslims and activists of human rights organisations on 18 Dec, took out separate protests in New Delhi against last week's attack on parliament. Activists of All India Shia-Sunni Muslim Association demanded Pakistan to hand over leaders of two militant groups identified by India behind the attack which left eight people dead. Five assailants were also killed.
Carrying anti-Pakistan placards, the protesters shouted slogans such as "Down with Pakistan," and "We condemn the terrorist attack on Parliament." Mohammed Yunus Siddiqui of the Muslim Association said the government should order attack on militant training camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. "Dictator Musharraf (Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf) should hand over terrorists responsible for the attacks on our Parliament to us. Otherwise, we will pressurise our Prime Minister to attack and destroy all the terrorist camps in Pakistan and also in Pakistan occupied Kashmir," said Siddiqui. There are an estimated 110 terrorist training camps in Muzaffarabad, capital of PoK and about 3,000 militants are trained here. The activists also submitted a memorandum to Pakistan High Commission demanding the arrest of those who have taken refuge in Pakistan.
Another protest was organised by activists of the National Human Rights Commission who also demanded the government to adopt a proactive policy against the Pakistan-based militant outfits involved in the attacks.
Leading the protest was an activist dressed up as "Mother India", holding a placard reading "Liberate me from Terrorism". The protesters shouted anti-Pakistan slogans before dispersing peacefully.
Indian police investigators have blamed two Pakistan-based guerrilla groups and its intelligence arm for the December 13 suicide attack. q |
