ISI Agent- who?
Samajwadi Party leader and former
minister for defence Mulayam Singh Yadav has accused the BJP government of
being in league with Pakistan’s ISI and it had plotted to close down the
Aligarh Muslim University in the name of the ISI. Earlier the owner of
Jain TV Channel and a staunch supporter of BJP, Dr JK Jain was also
accused of being an agent of the ISI for which Dr Jain raised great hue
and cry. The accusation by Samajwadi Party’s leader assumes significance
because neither any Muslim nor any BJP member has accused Jain of being an
ISI agent, but it is the highest investigating agency of the government,
RAW, which has, in its report, accused him of being an agent of ISI.
Probably it is for the first time that such a senior and influential
leader of the BJP has been accused so by the top investigation agency
while the BJP itself is in power. Reacting to this report of RAW, Dr Jain
has accused Prime Minister Vajpayee’s principal secretary Brajesh Mishra
of doing so at the behest of an industrial house and protested in a novel
way against the allegation. He reached Parliament wearing clothes on which
it was written: 'Am I an agent of ISI?' and 'Is Jain TV an ISI-supported
institution?' Many MPs sympathized with him. The former Prime Minister
Chandra Shekhar even sent him some couplets by way of consolation which
included:
Maidaan-e imtihaan hai, ghabra kay hut na jana
Takleef zindagi main choton pe chot khana.
It seems that Chandra Shekhar, in poetic language, has pronounced Jain's
innocence. Samajwadi, BSP and CPI too expressed their solidarity with him.
Sabt-e Razi, a congress MP, wrote him a couplet.
It need not be clarified here that it is BJP which had started a movement
of villifying Muslims by keeping them with ISI and which is prevalent even
today. These accusation swere made without any proof. Even some Ulama and
religious madarsas were not spared. But when the top secret agency of the
country accuses I.K. Jain of being an ISI agent, government is silent.
Political parties, instead of demanding the publication of RAW report, are
all sympathizing with him. If, God forbid, any Muslim leader would have
been accused of being an agent of ISI, no political leader would have
sympathised with him and he would have been imprisoned. There are even
reports that the Home Minister Advani had tried to get his name deleted
from the report. But, however, he could not succeed.
We demand that the government should make RAW’s report public so that
the people should know the reasons or bases on which Jain has been
declared ISI agent. If it does not do so, samajwadi Party’s accusation
of BJP governments’ complicity with ISI can not be completely rejected.
