MSM State campus conference
By ARIF ZAIN, Malappuram
Calicut: The three-day campus conference of the Mujahid Students’ Movement (MSM) concluded in Calicut on Jan.13 with a call to Muslims. Moulana Asghar Ali Imam Mehdi Assalafi, president All India Ahl-e- Hadith, inaugurated the conference at the Town Hall.
The conference discussed major religious political and socio-cultural issues related to the Muslim community. A symposium on "religion and political terrorism held soon after the inaugural session was inaugurated by K Muralidharan, president Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee. The MLAs, Binoy Vishwam and KNA Qadir, the BJP leader PS Shreedharan Pillai, Dr. Zulfiqar Ali, secretary Islamic Medical Brotherhood, Husain Madavoor, secretary Kerala Nadwatul Mujahideen and Zubair Mankada were also present.
The industries Minister PK Kunj Ali Kutty, who inaugurated the valedictory session, reminisced how the wisdom and foresight of former leaders of the community had succeeded in carrying such youth movements forward for the overall progress of the community. He said it had become highly relevant for youth associations to adopt a progressive outlook so as to be able to keep pace with contemporary changes in the technological world. Religious tenets had to be observed side by side with the fast changes. The Public Work Minister, MK Muneer, inaugurated the website of the MSM. The All India Muslim Personal Law Board member Abdul Wahab Khilji was the chief guest on the occasion. Earlier, the Education Minister N Soopy inaugurated the educational conference. The meet appealed for 10 per cent reservation in Government Plus Two schools for the students from the community. It was pointed out that even those students from the community who secured high marks were being denied seats in higher secondary schools.
When the community was educationally backward, it had become pertinent to provide reservation for them in Plus Two schools as was being done in the case of vocational higher secondary schools. A fervent appeal was also made for communal harmony and peace.
