The sarod maestro, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan was conferred with Madhya Pradesh government’s national Tansen Award for 2001-02 for his contribution to Indian classical music at a function to mark the 77th Tansen Festival at Gwalior.
The award, instituted by the Madhya Pradesh government in 1980, carries Rs. One lakh in cash and a plaque.
Sohail Ayub, lecturer, Civil Engineering, AMU Polytechnic has received the U.P. Government National Award 2001 in recognition of his outstanding work done in the area of rural-oriented and social development activity, in the field of Environmental Engg. by ISTE (Indian Society for Technical Education) during the valedictory function of the XXXI Annual Convention of ISTE held at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Bhubaneshwar, Orissa on 29th December, 2001. The Award consists of Cash Prize, Medallion and Citation.
Sahitya Akademy award winner, litterateur and poet Salahuddin Pervez has been honoured with the title of National Poet of India by Indian government. He has been conferred this honour in recognition of his creative interpretation of India’s culture and civilization, resurgence of Indian myths and their explanation besides his attempt to explain their perception in today’s world. His creations are reflections of India’s composite culture. He is a representative creator of Indian Islamic Culture and his spiritual and intuitive relation of Urdu poetry goes to Iqbal, Faiz and Firaq. At present he is rendering his services as the editor of a creative Urdu magazine Iste'ara. After films such as Jumbish and Yadon Ke Mausam, he is now busy in making TV serials.
The yearly income of Uttar Pradesh’s leather exporters will become two thousand crores if the state does not use raw material of other states. This view was expressed by
Irshad Mirza, managing director of Mirza Tanners Ltd after he received Excellence Award on the occasion of UP Calling 2002 at Methodist School, Kanpur. He said that UP has exported leather worth rupees eight hundred crores out of the total Indian export of Rs 20 thousand crores in the year 2001. He thanked his staff members for the award saying that they had played a great part in this award. He received the award from UP Chief Minister Rajnath Singh whom he called as Charnon Ke Sewak.
Ishtiyaq Hyder, former principal of Aligarh Muslim University’s Ahmadi School for Blinds and general secretary of National Association for the Blind, UP branch, has been honoured with Hellen Keller award. Besides MA and M Ed in Education and History, he has also done Ph D. He has been brought up and educated in America. His book Blind Children is the gist of his educational research and is very popular. He is the first person in India to start educating and training of science, geometry, steno typing, etc to blind children upto high school level. As a result the blind children are encouraged. The award was presented to him at India International Centre, Delhi.
The England Cricket team captain Nasser Hussain who is of Indian origin been honoured with Order of British Empire (OBE). Nasser has indicated that he may take retirement after world cup next year.
Well-known Bollywood actor Amir Khan will be conferred with Awadh Samman. The award will be presented to him by Uttar Pradesh Governor Vishnukant Shastri in a function at Lucknow. The award is given to selected persons.
In the third annual function of World Human Organization held in Fatehpur, well known poet and critic
Wahiduddin Khan Matin was honoured with Junoon Award in recognition of his literary services. RB Junoon, head of the organization presented him a certificate and a shawl. Later on, various scholars expressed their views about his art and personality. The function ended with a poetic symposium.
Muhammad Yousuf Khan has been awarded Rs 1 lakh for being the best banker. Irfan Ahmad Ganaie received 6 thousand rupees for bravery. These awards were announced by J&K government last year but have been granted post-facto sanction this year.
