Dr. Nafees A. Khan, a senior lecturer in the Department of Botany at AMU has been selected for the UGC Research Award for the IX Plan period. This is one of the most significant and prestigious awards given by UGC to any teacher. The award is given in recognition of excellent talent in academics and research and to felicitate the awardee to carry out advance research in his area of specialization. Dr. Khan is a devoted researcher and teacher with high academic accomplishments. He has successfully completed two research projects and supervised three Ph.Ds. He has also been awarded visiting Fellowship by the Department of Science and Technology. He has edited a book and published several research papers in the journals of national and international repute.
Former captain of Indian Football team Arjun awardee Muhammad Habib has been appointed new coach of Mohammadan Sporting team. Belonging to Hyderabad, Habib has played for all three major teams of Kolkata-Mohan Bagan, East Bengal and Mohammadan Sporting and had been the first director of Tata Football Academy, Jamshedpur. Earlier too he had been appointed coach of Mohammadan Sporting team, but he left for Hyderabad after differences with management. He told newspersons that he will try to lead the team to success and will concentrate more on young players. Time will tell whether he brings home the past glories of the team. Let us hope for the best.
Allah Rakha Rahman, the noted music composer is now doing an ad jingle for the well known Morepen Laboratories, which rule the world of health products and have drawn the consumers’ attention. The music has been composed in lines with health anthem.. This will be his another album after his earlier album of patriotic songs.
Former central minister Syed Sibt Razi, SI Sineen, professor of Jawaharlal Nehru University, senior journalist Saeed Naqvi and Prof Majida Asad have been nominated court-members of Aligarh Muslim University by President of India and visitor of AMU KR Narayanan. The term of the four members would be four years.

Akbar Khan wants to convey the message of love, brotherhood and peace and harmony through this picture not only to his nation but to the entire world as the picture would be translated into English as well and be released in Hollywood at the same time.
Dr Tariq Mansoor and Prof Rizaullah Khan have been elected members of the Executive Council, Aligarh Muslim University. Among 6 candidates for the posts, Tariq Mansoor of the Department of Surgery got 347 votes while 15 votes were cast in favour of Prof Rizaullah Khan of the Department of Civil Engineering.
Mahmood Zia has been recently nominated general secretary of Delhi’s Congress Committee. His nomination has been welcomed and it is hoped that he will work for the welfare of the minorities.
Wrestler Imran has won the title of Noshirwan after his 9th consecutive win. In a recent wrestling competition held at Ittehadi Dangal Akhada, Mina Bazar Jama Masjid, Delhi Imran defeated Jitendra in the senior group of wrestlers, standing victor for the 9th time. More than 100 wrestling-bouts were held.

Kaifi Azmi has been selected as "Fellow of the Sahitya Akademi", the honour reserved for "the immortals of literature". "This honour is reserved for the 'immortals of literature' and limited to 21 only at any given time," a press release of the Akademi said.
M Rafeeque Ahmad, chairman of All India Footwear Panel Advisory Committee and president of All India Skins and Hides Tanners and Merchants Association, has been recently nominated chairman of FDDI for three years. FDDI is an organization established by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Its headquarters are located in Noida, near Delhi. Rafeeque, a leading leather exporter and entrepreneur of Tamil Nadu has been associated with leather trade for long. He is also southern regional chairman in the Federation of Indian Export Organizations.
60-year-old Rakiba Bibi of Motihari, Bihar, whose husband Mohammad Amir was killed at Bengal’s Alipore zoo by a Royal Bengal tiger 30 years ago, while trying to feed the tiger has been working at the same zoo since after the sad death of her husband. She is to retire in May this year. The zoo director offered her the job at a time when she needed it to look after her son Raju. Besides zoo keeping, she was given additional work of feeding young animals. She reared the animals with as much care as she reared her son Raju. Now she wants to do the same to her grand children in her village by fostering their education. But she says she will miss the colleagues and animals at the zoo.

along with 27 other secessionists has been denied permission to go for Haj this year. Geelani called it an intrusion in religious affairs. He accused the BJP-led government of anti-Muslim policies.
