Bomb explosion in mosque
Saharanpur: In what seems to be an attempt to communalize the peaceful environment on the eve of Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, anti-social elements exploded a bomb in a mosque in Saharanpur early morning on 11 February. The bomb that authorities claimed was a crude bomb went off injuring two devotees in the Salya Ghat mosque in Alampur area of the city. Muslim elders successfully defused the rising tempers among Muslim youths who were furious over the incident.
The bomb that went off while the Fajr prayers were in progress also slightly damaged the mosque besides injuring two devotees Master Raghib and Muhammad Yasin. The witnesses say that there was a thud and then a powerful explosion. The explosion was so powerful that it awoke the people in the neighboring area who rushed to the site. Police also reached the spot immediately and called the bomb squad. Police have arrested several suspects in the case.
But it were the Muslim leaders including the Imam, Kalim Akhtar who did their best to defuse the rising tension. They have demanded the police to arrest and punish the
guilty. q |
