AMDB in deep crisis
By M.H.Rahman, Williamnagar
|The Assam Minority Development Board (AMDB)
is in severe financial crisis due to the state government's indifferent
attitude towards it. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati. AMDB
chairman and AGP member of Assam state Assembly Ali Akbar Mian said that
the board needs Rs. 23 crores annually, but it is given only Rs. 4
million. He also disclosed that the board asked the state government to
raise the budgetary allocation from Rs 40m but the government has so far
initiated no action.
The AMDB had been functioning well since its inception in 1985. It has
been imparting training and granting loans to the unemployed youths
belonging to the minority communities for opening small business ventures
like grocery, public call office, tailoring, poultry etc. It needs
immediate attention of the government to resolve its financial crisis.
