AMU vice chancellor Muhammad Hamid Ansari has appointed Prof. Nazeer
Hasan Khan the provost of Aftab Hall. The post was vacated by Dr Ali Khan
of Urdu Department. In another appointment Prof. Salahuddin Shah of dept.
of civil engineering has been appointed the coordinator of BE evening
course. Prof. M Mazhar of department of civil engineering
AMU celebrated Science Day on 1 March. A program was organized in
Biotechnology Institute of the AMU on the occasion. Inaugurating the
program, SM Afzal, registrar of the university said that from now onwards
biotechnology will play an important role in the development of the
country and it will also be a source of welfare of the people.
He said that biotechnology can also help in containing crimes. Because
genes that induce crimes can be extracted from human body by this
developed technology. He also appreciated the contributions of Prof. CV
Raman in the field of biotechnology.
Dr Rajendra Prasad, director of Institute of Medical Education and
Research, Chandigarh presented a research paper on biotechnology. Prof.
Majid Siddiqi former dean faculty of life science also presented a paper
on the story of gene.
Dr Zulfiyah has been appointed yet for another term as head of
department of community medicine in JN Medical College of the University.
Her tenure is for a period of three years. She is a reader in the
department of community medicine.
A month-long training for the students of the department of journalism
was inaugurated by the faculty of social sciences dean, Prof. Mansura
Haider. She said while inaugurating that the students of this department
are the ambassadors of the cultural department who can play an important
role in the construction of the society. She appealed the students to
publicize the traditions of the AMU all over the world. Dr Debashish
Chakraborty said that since there will be an spurt in the use of
electronic media all over the world, students should complete this
training with great devotion.
Allama Iqbal Hallís Literary and Cultural Society organized a
literary and cultural festival, Parwaz 2001, on 28 February. The festival
was organized by VCís wife Salma Ansari.
Ansari said while inaugurating the program that these sort of programs
help students improve their hidden qualities. She emphasized that students
should take part in cultural activities and give them an important place
in their schedules besides curricular activities. She said that these
activities embellish students personalities. A large number of students
participated in the programme that included mono-acting, drama, ghazal
contest, and extempore speech. q
