Qasmi, President of All India Muslim Personal Law Board is seriously ill for the last few days. He has been admitted to Delhi’s Apollo Hospital where he has been kept in intensive care unit. His condition is very critical. He has been suffering from cancer for many years.
Well known religious personality Maulana Shah Abrarul Haque, rector of Madrasa Dawatul Haque Ashraful Madaris, Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh is very sick. He has been admitted to a private nursing home in Lucknow after a brain haemorrhage where his condition is reported to be very critical. Maulana has his disciples spread all over the country.
Samajwadi Party member Mohammad Azam Khan has resigned from Rajya Sabha following his election to Uttar Pradesh Assembly.
At the premiere of a film on boxing legend Mohammad Ali in South Africa, Nelson Mandela, former president of South Africa had high praises for his hero. Mandela said Ali used to fly like a butterfly and sting like a mosquito. He is the first heavyweight to show his talent with his steps. He further said that Ali took boxing to its zenith and he feels immensely happy to pay tributes to his hero and the hero of millions of people overseas.

Ahmad Rais Siddiqui has been promoted as Manager (Joint Venture) of the NTPC. Siddiqui joined NTPC as assistant engineer in 1984 and is the first Indian power sector singles champion.
Kafil Ahmad Ansari has been nominated secretary of Delhi’s Minorities Department. This was done by Abdus Sami Salmani, chairman of Delhi’s Minorities Department in the presence of various members of the Department. His nomination has been welcomed and it is hoped that he will work for the welfare and development of the minorities.
For the biennial polls for 54 seats of Rajya Sabha Maulana Obaidullah Khan Azmi of Congress and
Lal Jan Pasha, general secretary of Telugu Desham Party have been elected unopposed Members of Rajya Sabha (Upper House) from Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh respectively.
Noted singer Muhammad Aziz is once again in the news. The song Yaro Main India Chala in the forthcoming picture of Mehul Kumar Kitne Door Kitne Paas has become popular. He was born and brought up in Kolkata in a religious family where singing was strictly forbidden. He came to Mumbai in 1982 and after a few years’ struggle outshone here with the title song in Mard- Mard Tange Wala. Aziz has sung in 14 languages and is well known in almost every state of India. So far he has recorded about 7,000 songs. Aziz says that his grandfather was chief Qazi and maternal uncle a Hafiz and great grandfather was a famous buzurg.: pious person. Few know that Aziz too has memorized 17 chapters of the Holy Qur’an. He observes fast and offers namaz. He is much influenced by Muhammad Rafi and believes that honesty coupled with constant struggle brings success one day.
