Anjuman Platinum Jubilee

The Anjuman Hami-e-Muslimeen, Bhatkal, a pioneering educational trust, will finally celebrate its platinum jubilee from May 5 to May 8, 2001. Disclosing this to the media Mr Aftab H Kola, chairman, Jubilee Publicity Committee, said Mr S M Krishna, state Chief Minister and Mr P M Saeed, Deputy Speaker, Lok Sabha will be the guests at the Main Jubilee function on May 5th morning at the Anjuman College oval (Anjumanabad). Mr S M Syed Khaleel, president, Anjuman, will preside over the function. Besides, Mr R V Deshpande, Minister for Industries and Mrs Margaret Alva, MP, will also attend.

The inauguration of the All-India Muslim Educational Conference will be held on the afternoon of May 5th. The conference will begin immediately after the inauguration and shall continue on 6th and 7th. Eminent educationists, intellectuals and scholars are likely to participate in the conference. Messrs Zafar Saifullah, former Cabinet Secretary, Syed Hamid, Chancellor, Hamdard University, A M Khusro, Chairman, Finance Commission, Govt of India, Moosa Raza, Maulana Abdulla Mughaisi, Maulana Saalim Quasimi and a few others will be the key speakers while another 200 delegates drawn from all over the country will participate. During the conference tributes to late A K Hafizka and S M Syed Mohiddin Moulana will be paid. This conference will be held at the Islamia Anglo-Urdu High School ground.

Yaume-Yahya (a tribute to Yahya) will be organized on the morning of May 8th with the participation of Mr K H Ranganath, Karnataka Forest Minister and Dr G Parmeshwara, Karanataka Higher Education Minister. An Anjuman publication book, Yahya-Vision and Action, co-authored by Aftab H Kola and Syed Hasan Sakkaf, will be released on the occasion. Another discussion forum for the local Muslim educational institutions will be held on 8th afternoon.

A grand All-India urdu mushaira will be held as a finale to the grand jubilee celebrations on 8th night at the Islamia Anglo-Urdu High School ground with the participation of 18 eminent poets drawn from across the country and 5 local poets. Celebrated poets like Dr Jagannath Azad, Aslam Parvez, Majid Deobandi, Talib Qumeri and Farid Anjum, will declaim their poetry.

It may be recalled that Anjuman had kicked off the celebrations with an impressive inaugural function on 20 May 2000. A series of memorial lectures on different educational topics was organized as part of the celebrations throughout the last part of 2000.
