SALIM ANSARI, the goal keeper of DSA League Champion Hindustan Football Club, has received Player of the Year award. The award was presented to him by Anand Bhardwaj, executive vice president of
Electrolux Kelvinator. Salim is the third player to receive this award. Salim Ansari was selected the best player in recognition of his best performance in DSA Football League during 2001-02 under the leadership of seasoned journalist Kewal Kaushik’s 5-member committee which also included former Olympian SS Hakim.
University Grants Commission has honoured Professor Emeritus MUHAMMAD SHAFI of the Department of Geography, Aligarh Muslim University with Saraswati Samman for his outstanding research on environmental science. Minister for Human Resources Development Murli Manohar Joshi presented the award to him in a grand function. Prof Muhammad Shafi has been pro vice chancellor of AMU and he was conferred with Padma Shree by the government of India last year.
Kashmir University student SHAHNAZ IQBAL QURESHI has been awarded a certificate of merit for his paper on ‘Commitment of youth for social welfare and society.’ The certificate was presented to him at the national inter-university youth seminar organized by the AIU, New Delhi and Commonwealth (Asia Centre) at Jiwaji University, Gwalior. More than 50 universities of the country represented by youth participated in the seminar which was inaugurated by the minister of state for higher education, Madhya Pradesh.
The Rajasthan Urdu Akademy has named its annual award after noted Urdu litterateur, Mehmood Shirani and has increased its prize money to Rs 11,000. The Mehmood Shirani award has been given to
IBN-E-AHSAN BAZMI from Tonk. Bismil Saidi award for poetry and Ahteramuddin Shagil award for prose have been given to
HASEEN KAUSARI of Jaipur and MASHKOOR JAVED of Udaipur respectively. These awards carry a cash prize of Rs 7,000 each.
ZEENAT KAIFI from Jaipur: working with the Urdu edition of Rashtriya Sahara received the journalism award and SHAMIM BIKANERI
received Maulana Qamar Wahidi award. The Akademy has also announced prizes for Urdu books.
ZAFAR AHMED SIDDIQUI for his book Mohammedan College Se Muslim University Tak and Mahendra Singh Tyagi for his book Urdu Ka Apna Urooj Aur Shairi have been categorized for the prize.
Rajasthan Urdu Academy has announced an award of Rs 3000 to honour Urdu poet and litterateur
MUSAWWAR SABZWARI on his collection of poems Dhamal. He has been associated with Urdu for about 40 years which has made him a popular figure for his unique style. His works have been published in standard journals of India, Pakistan, Norway, USA, Canada etc. His other poetry collections include: Barge-e-Atish Sawar, Manjhi Dhire Dhire Chal, Dehliz Par Utarti Sham and Rishtay Tootne Ka Mausam.
