Modernization of madrasas essential
Kolkata: Bengal’s chief minister, Budhadeb Bhattacharjee while inaugurating a Waqf Tribunal for quick disposal of Waqf disputes and other Waqf-related matters on 13 April, said that his government will set up an advisory board for the welfare, education and training and creation of employment opportunities for minorities. He further said that immediate modernization of religious madrasas in order to associate Muslim children of these madrasas with modern education system is need of the hour.
He said that AR Qidwai’s report on madrasa education is likely to be finalized and presented in six months. He further said that the advisory board will consist of chief secretary of the state, home secretary and chairman of Waqf Board. He said that there are 25 percent members of the minority community in the state whose rights and interests will be protected. q |
