Mumbai TADA Court judge completes six years
| Mumbai: The special TADA court judge, Justice PD Kode, who is hearing the cases of serial bombing in Mumbai of March 1993, completed six years on 29 March. He had taken over as special TADA court judge from his predecessor, Justice JN Patel on 29 March 1996. Justice Kode, during his six years period, did not avail of a single holiday but inspite of continuous hearing of cases, discussions on the statements of witnesses of the accused persons are still not complete. Thus hearings on cases of Mumbai serial bomb blasts, which started in March 1993, are going on for the last nine years. It may be recalled that serial bomb blasts took place in March 1993 at 12 places in Mumbai consequent upon widespread communal riots in Mumbai in the wake of demolition of Babri Masjid on 6 December 1992. These bomb blasts had a crippling effect on the country’s economy in addition to at least 250 deaths and injuries to about 500 persons. According to some experts, these cases are expected to be finalised during this year and judgement is expected to be delivered by the end of this year. But that will not be the end of the case because thereafter appeals will start another chain of hearings. q |
