‘A hidden power using Gujaratis for political gains’
Ahmadabad: Ram Vilas Paswan, leader of Lok Janshakti Party and former central minister, after touring the riot-affected areas of Gujarat said that cases of violence are now confined to areas where poor labour class people like small artists, mill workers, washermen, barbers, construction workers etc live in narrow lanes and by-lanes. He further said that a hidden power is using the poor people for its own political selfish interests.
He advised these poor people to form peace committees by including both local Muslims and ‘dalits’ in order to foil the unholy attempts of selfish and opportunist people. Muslims of Rajpura locality showed him and his colleagues how they had protected a 400-year old Jain temple. Another man, Ameen Khan, showed 4 or 5 houses whose Hindu occupants were living fearlessly and in cooperation with the surrounding Muslim population.
It was, however, very diswhtressing to see poor, hard working people on daily wages who were facing extreme difficulties because they were unable to earn any thing because of frequent curfew and where violence was going on for eight weeksr so.
About 250 textile mills and other factories had closed down as a result of which poor mill workers were rendered unemployed. Much of the economy is in shambles. q |
