Rehabilitation of riot-hit people a cruel joke
Ahmadabad: Public Relief Committee, one of the many organizations set up to provide relief and rehabilitation to the riot-affected people in Gujarat, has drawn up a plan to purchase 12,000 sq yards of land to rehabilitate 200 riot-hit families with all civic facilities in Sarkhej near Johapura.
According to Afzal Memon, a member of this Committee, the Government of Gujarat has given cheques for amounts ranging from Rs 200 to 500 to each individual for building of houses! He said this is a cruel joke by the Gujarat government. How it can help iin building a house or even a wall?
Meanwhile, cases of violence and murder are going on by fits and starts in Ahmadabad and other places. The new police team has started its job in a professional manner. The team met people in refugee camps and asked them to register FIRs against the perpetrators of crime so that action against them could be taken. The security adviser to the chief minister, KPS Gill is trying hard to restore confidence of the riot-hit people and maintaining peace, law and order. About 300 refugees of the Gomtipur relief camp have returned to their old houses, as per the news.
