Abu Jaffer Zaidi, eminent Urdu-calligrapher passed away on 7 June 2002 in Lucknow as reported by Anjuman Taraqqui-e-Urdu Lucknow. A press release said that Late Zaidi was a dexterous calligrapher. He served as a calligrapher in the department of Urdu, Delhi University for almost twenty five years.
The mother of Zahirun Nisa Nigar breathed her last on 11 June 2002 in a private nursing home. She has been a chronic patient. Several literary personalities offered their tributes. They also expressed their heart felt sorrow and conveyed their sympathy to the kins of the decease. A condolence meeting was also held by Haji Maqbool Memorial Society and Urdu Press Club.
Afzal Mehdi, a noted personality of Nahtor left for his heavenly abode on 12 June 2002 after prolonged illness. He was 75. Thousands of his admirers joined to offer funeral prayer. He is survived by hi wife, four sons and daughter. He was loved by Shiites and Sunnis as well. He was an active member of Dargah Najf Hind, Jagipura and he authored a book on Dargah Najf Hind.
Ex-ISRO scientist and director of Bangalore’s Home Makers & Salsabil Construction Company,
Tameezuddin, 52, breathed his last on 9 June 2002. He had been suffering from blood cancer for the past three years. Tameezuddin, a BE in communications, served ISRO as scientist for three years before launching his own company of which he remained director till the last moment. He was married to Ms Nasreen, daughter of Dr HM Ismail. He is survived by his wife and son Hisham. Gifted with extraordinary virtues, he was humble and sociable. He did not reveal his suffering to anyone, not even to his wife and son lest he trouble them. This hampered his proper treatment until his ailment reached an advanced stage. His funeral prayer was offered at Qadriya Eidgah and he was laid to rest at Quddus graveyard. He was a close associate of R Roshan Baig, Karnataka minister of tourism and Haj. Thousands of people attended his funeral prayer. He developed a large circle of friends, including many prominent citizens and officials.
