‘Shiv Sena didn't pull down Babri’
New Delhi: Contradicting his party's public claim of credit for its role in the demolition of disputed structure at Ayodhya, a former Shiv Sena MP today told the Liberhan Commission that his party cadres were not involved in pulling down the structure.
"We were absolutely not involved in the demolition, though we are staunch Hindus. We don't believe in any illegal action," he told the Commission when asked about the role of Shiv Sena in the demolition of disputed structure at Ayodhya. Save, who was present during the demolition, said, it would be difficult to pin-point who was responsible for the demolition as people had assembled in Ayodhya as kar sevaks.
"In my view, credit should not have gone to any particular group or organisation..., whoever had gathered in Ayodhya were kar sevaks," he said when asked whether the Shiv Sainiks from Marathwada led the demolition squad. Sena leader Bal Thackeray had often claimed that his party workers had played a leading role in the demolition. (PTI, 20 June, 2002)
MG comment: RSS, VHP, Bajrang Dal, BJP and Shiv Sena leaders and their publications like Panchjanya and Samna have on umpteen occasions bragged that they pulled down the so-called ‘disputed structure’. Their mouthpieces, like Panchjanya even published ‘rolls of honour’ with names and addresses of people who accomplished the job.. But when it comes to courts and commissions of enquiries they change tack and claim that they are not responsible and that unknown people committed this crime. Some, like Advani, have even claimed that they actually tried to prevent the demolition!... These paper tigers have cited many culprits from Central Government’s agents provocateurs to UP PWD workers to even the Pakistan ISI (this last gem came from Mr Malkani).
