Muslim leadership never insisted on implementation of Gopal Singh's report

Aligarh: The well-known poet of film world, Javed Akhtar while delivering an extension lecture on the ‘History of Communalism’ at Aligarh Muslim University said that prejudice cannot be eliminated with prejudice but we shall have to come forward in order to put an end to prejudice, parochialism, communalism and hatred. He said that communalism is spreading in our body with every breath and that communalism is being promoted in order to capture the country. He said that the constitution framed after the partition of India was a secular one and the congressmen at that time were more secular while there is no place for secularism in the constitution of Pakistan.

Javed Akhtar said that most of the people of India are secular even today. Communalism so far is the problem of cities. In villages people live together harmoniously. He said that no action has been taken on Gopal Singh Panel’s report on the educational and economic condition of Muslims. Even Muslims members of parliament never emphasized the need for implementation of this report. He said that no attention is paid on basic problems. He said that Pakistan’s stability is possible only when Muslims of India are in difficulties. Whenever Indian Muslims have faced troubles and difficulties, Pakistan has rested in peace.

Presiding over the extension lecture, the Vice Chancellor Mohammad Hamid Ansari said that communal agenda cannot be countered with anti-communal agenda but with a secular agenda. He said that secularism does not mean losing one’s identity but maintaining one’s identity.
