Obituaries: 1-15 August 2002

MAULAN GHULAM RASOOL MAZAHIRI QASMI of district Giridih, Jharkhand died on July 12, at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. He had been ill for one month. He was 55 and is survived by his wife, four sons and two daughters. A condolence meeting was held at All India Talimi wa Milli Foundation in Zakir Nagar of New Delhi.

Social activist MUHAMMAD YAMIN NIKKI ROTIWALE died on July 16 at his residence in Bara Hindurao, Delhi. He was 48. He is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters. He used to take active part in religious functions besides social activities. He was known as Nikki Rotiwale. 

Urdu poet ABID SAMBHALI died on July 2. He was born in Sambhal in Moradabad district of Uttar Pradesh. He was an active member of Bazme Baghe Adab and had been serving Urdu for about 20 years. He was among the outstanding disciples of late poet Nazim Qureshi.

QAZI MUSAWWAR HUSSAIN, uncle of Qazi Masudul Hasan, member Fatehpuri Public Library died of cardiac arrest. He is survived by six daughters and a son. A condolence meeting was held at Madrasa Aliya Fatehpuri, Delhi. He was buried in his ancestral town, Akbarabad.

Kaloos bereaved
Srinagar: After battling for her life for 10 long days at the SK Institute of Medical Sciences, Soura, Asmat, the youngest daughter of Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Kaloo of Janta News Agency, who is also the circulation manager of Greater Kashmir, breathed her last at 8 a.m. on July 21. (To Allah we belong and to Allah we return). The deceased is niece of GK editor Fayaz Ahmad Kaloo.For her angelic nature and etiquette, Asmat, 17, a class 12 student of the Girls High School, Kothibagh, was popular both with her relations and school mates. Hundreds of mourners joined the funeral at the Islamia High School grounds, Botakadal. Later, she was laid to rest at her ancestral Mazar Namdagari mohalla near Islamia college, Srinagar. At an emergency meeting presided over by its president, Haji Mushtaq Kalashpori, the All Kashmir News Agent and Hawkers Union condoled the death Khwaja Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Kaloo’s daughter. They prayed for divine blessings for the departed soul and expressed sympathies with the bereaved family (Greater Kashmir, 22 July).
