Desecration of the sanctity of Qutub Shahi domes in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: The road leading to Hyderabad's historical building, Char Minar, has been declared one-way traffic area for the traffic. The police and Municipal Corporation authorities have started strict compliance with this order. This monument built by Qutub kings in 1591 has come to be associated with Hyderabad's name. It is counted amongst the few beautiful and ancient buildings of the country. Because of huge traffic in the vicinity of Char Minar, damages had started creeping in this building as a result of which the road leading to the Char Minar was declared a one-way route for the traffic.
There is also a small and beautiful mosque on the roof of Char Minar in which around 45 people can offer group prayers at a time. Tourists are not allowed to go up because the Archaeological Survey of India imposed a ban on going up the Char Minar since 18 November 1986. The reason behind this ban was that five persons of a family, including four sisters and one brother had committed suicide by jumping from the 'minar', because of economic difficulties.
Reacting to the restrictions place on the movement of traffic for the safety of Char Minar, Maulana Hafiz Peer Shabbeer Ahmad said in a statement that if the state government and ASI are really interested in the safety of Char Minar, they should also safeguard the sanctity of the mosque and Chhalla Mahboob Subhani above the Char Minar. He said that ASI has declared the Qutub Shahi domes, which is the royal graveyard and eternal resting place of Qutub kings as a place of entertainment where people go about in hordes. But it is a pity that people are destroying the sanctity of this place and move about the domes situated in this graveyard with their shoes on. Moreover, the film people have made this royal graveyard an outdoor studio and carry on shootings every now and then.
He also said that outside the Char Minar in the south-eastern part a temple is built which is adjacent to the Char Minar. The Supreme Court had ordered the demolition of this temple but in the absence of its implementation worship is openly being carried on the road. In view of this, permission should also be given to offer prayers in the mosque situated on the roof of Char Minar and the responsibility for the safety of this mosque and appointment of Imam and Moazzin should also be taken by ASI. The Maulana has appealed to Muslim representatives elected by the people to take up this matter with the government so that the government or the ASI should not do anything which may hurt the sentiments of Muslims. q |
