Deoband episode: wild allegations...
|Communal frenzy has started taking its
toll on Uttar Pradesh. As the elections are getting close everything is
being given a new twist by the Sangh Parivar and other saffron
organizations. Everything is being branded as a handiwork of Muslims in
close collaboration with the ‘ISI’.
The latest in this episode is the bomb blast in a Delhi-bound train from
Haridwar, on the eve of the Independence Day in Moradnagar near Delhi. The
bomb blast on 14 August killed three people including two teen-aged
students of Darul Uloom, Deoband, and injured around two dozen people
including two other students of the Darul Uloom.
The twist being given to the bomb explosion has received flack from many
corners. There are news in the media that the bomb blast was the handiwork
of the two students of the Darul Uloom who themselves were killed in the
blasts. There are also rumours that the bomb was kept in the train by
these students to be used in the capital during the Independence Day
Deoband has seen an escalation in communal tension ever since the riots
broke out in the nearby town of Muzaffar Nagar. It was very fortunate to
have averted similar fate as the fundamentalist organization tried to
resort to the same time-tested gimmick as they had resorted to in Muzaffar
Nagar. But fortunately Muslims acted too cautiously and did not allow
things to go out of control.
Provocative handbills and pamphlets were thrown inside several mosques in
Deoband town by some alleged Hindu organizations. In Hanifiya Masjid
provocative pamphlets, saying that the Darul Uloom will be blasted on the
Independence Day, were thrown on 8 August. Two days later similar
handbills were found in another mosque, Darziyon Wali Masjid. A number of
shops are also reported to have found provocative handbills of the same
sort. Nothing stopped Muslims from taking to the streets after such a
provocation and no one would have blamed them, but they kept their cool
and elders tried their best to control the anger.
Wild allegations made in the wake of the train blasts have added fuel to
fire. There are other stories of such kind that make absurd allegation
that the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) is in control in the
Rector of Darul Uloom, Maulana Marghoobur Rahman, has reacted angrily over
these wild allegations. The Maulana has said that the way Darul Uloom is
being dragged in the incident of bomb blasts is unacceptable and it cannot
be tolerated. He categorically denied that the institution is becoming a
centre of the SIMI. The Maulana said that there are basic differences
between Darul Uloom and the approach of the SIMI and there is no
relationship between the institution and the SIMI. ‘Such allegations
without even understanding these broad differences should be condemned’
the Maulana said.
He said that the Darul Uloom is an institution of world repute and has
served the nation since its inception. He added that the Darul Uloom has
played a significant role in inculcating love for the nation and blaming
such institution is blaming the whole nation.
There are unconfirmed reports that some people of Tablighi Jamaat who
boarded the train from Muzaffar Nagar were arrested and were forced to
make statement alleging that the Darul Uloom Deoband students were
involved in the explosion. q
