Obituaries: 1-15 September 2001

Rashid Sahsawani, eminent Urdu journalist died in Delhi on 26 July after a heart attack. He was 69. Born in 1932 in Sahsawan (district Badayun) of U, he started his career as assistant editor of Defence Ministry's Sainik Samachar, and later joined All India Radio (AIR). He retired as an editor of government's journal Yojna in 1992. He also worked as journalist in various Urdu dailies. He has written many novels and short stories and had deep interest in literature. He was popular among literary circles for his reticent and candid personality. He is survived by his wife, a daughter and two sons.

Abdul Baqui, founder of 'Qalamkar Anjuman' and renowned literary figure, died after cardiac arrest. He started a movement for promotion of literature. His many articles and short stories were broadcast from BBC London and Tehran Radio. His articles were being published in Dawat and Radiance.
