No dirge of civilization yet
Within six months after independence, Urdu was abolished throughout the country in general and from the syllabi of schools and colleges of all regions, especially Delhi, UP and Bihar. This was the time when hatred against Urdu was at its height and like the Muslims of North India it was also considered responsible for partition of the country.

My childhood days were spent in a far off place of the Frontier Province. All Muslim leaders of the political parties, except Muslim League, of my district were educated at Darul Uloom Deoband. Instead of paying tributes to their memory, various kinds of false and unfounded accusations are being made against their seminaries. This is really very shameful. |

In such an environment the very first generation going to schools after independence became unfamiliar with the Urdu script. There were madrasas even in this period of disappointment and crisis which kindled rays of hope. These madrasas continued Urdu education under extremely difficult circumstances without any government aid and assistance. Urdu education was imparted to students in these institutions along with religious education. The role of these madrasas has been very valuable in the survival and progress of Urdu.
People who put various types of concocted and baseless accusations against the performance of these madrasas are not aware of the history of the country's freedom struggle. They knowingly display their ignorance. Many madrasas have played distinguished role in the freedom struggle. Many top leaders of Majlis-e-Ahrar, Jamiatul Ulama-e-Hind and Indian National Congress were products of Darul Uloom Deoband.
Abhi tahzeeb ka nauha na likhna
Abhi kuch log Urdu boltay hain
Write not the dirge of civilization yet
Some people still speak Urdu.
