Awards: 1-15 October2001
National Citizen’s Award
Syed Shah Nawaz Husain, the Union Aviation Minister and Sanjay Khan, actor,
producer and director received National Citizen’s Awards.
The Awards were presented by United Nations Human Rights’ Committee Chairman,
Justice PN Bhagwati at New Delhi. The awards, initiated in 1987, are presented
to eminent figures to recognize excellence in various activities affecting
national life. Sanjay Khan received the award for TV serials. Syed Shah Nawaz
got the prize for ‘Promoting National Integration’
The awardees also included among others, spiritual leader Dalai Lama and MA
Pathan, Chairman of Indian Oil Corporation. All the awardees were given medal
and a plaque.
President’s Award
Prof Masoodur Rahman Khan Nadwi received President’s Award for
‘Promoting Arabic Language.’ He belongs to an old, religious and educational
family of Bhopal. He is professor of West Asian Studies at Aligarh Muslim
University. He thanked Allah for receiving the award. All academic, religious
and literary circles of Bhopal were very happy at this honour. Darul Tasnif Wa
Al-Tarjama of Bhopal held a reception in his honour.
Delhi Teachers’ Award
Mrs Sajida Qadeer, teacher of history of Government Girls Senior Secondary
School, Bulbulikhana, Asaf Ali Road and Mrs Zaheena Khatoon of Kedar Building
Sarvodaya School were given Delhi Teachers’ Award on the occasion of
Teachers’ Day at Talkatora Indoor Stadium, Delhi. Mrs Sajida Qadeer has been
teaching for 24 years.
The prize included a shawl, a silver medal, a certificate and Rs 10,000 in cash.
Dr Narendra Nath, Delhi education minister distributed the awards.
