Rejoinders
Baseless allegations regarding MET scholarships

This is with reference to a Rejoinder published in your esteemed paper (MG 1-15 September) relating to MET Scholarships.

Common courtesy requires that the writer Ubaid Ahmed Patel should have verified the facts from the office of the Muslim Education Trust. This would have saved him from making baseless allegations.

As a background to the issue, it may be stated that the main scheme relating to IDB Scholarships is being implemented through the agency of The Students Islamic Trust. The scheme has all-India coverage and under it, scholarships are awarded on the basis of competitive merit to applicants from all over the country. These scholarships are usually given for studying the Medicine and Engineering.

Muslim Education Trust recovers the amount of IDB Loan Scholarships. It was decided by the Muslim Education Trust that part of the amount so recovered may be channelled for running a minor scholarship scheme. Considering that the Northern states are educationally very backward, it was decided that assistance from MET should be given to those states which obviously require special assistance. Gujarat, of course, is within our ambit and the few applications received from there have all been granted MET Scholarships.

I hope the position stand explained to the satisfaction of your readers.
