Paramhans’ unconditional apology to High Court
Lucknow: The Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court, accepting unconditional apology by Paramhans Ramchandra Das, president of Ram Janambhoomi Nyas, for contempt of court and exonerated him and directed him to be careful in future while expressing such views. This order was given by the special bench of High Court consisting of Justice Sudhir Narayan, Sayed Rafat Alam and Bhanwar Singh, hearing the Babri Masjid ownership case.
It may be recalled that the special bench had suggested on 1 August that excavation be made at the site of Babri Majsid under the supervision of Hindu and Muslim experts to see if any trace of a Hindu temple could be found under the ground. Reacting to this suggestion, Paramhans while talking to press reporters had warned the court that it con not and should not undertake excavation at this place. Taking this warning as contempt of court, the special bench had issued a show cause notice to him and ordered him furnish his reply, together with an affidavit, on 10 Sept.
The court was packed to capacity before start of the proceedings. Special security arrangements were made for this hearing and limited number of passes were issued by the court, in addition to lawyers of the contending parties, to the selected representatives of Jamaitul Ulama-e-Hind, Sunni Waqf Board, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and a few other Muslim representatives.
Paramhans said before the honourable judges that he never made any statement before the press reporters to the effect that he will not obey court orders, but in case the court treats any part of his statement as contempt of court, he tenders his unconditional apologies.
