Muslim reaction
Muslim leaders and
parties have come out to denounce the US strikes in Afghanistan
Naib Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Maulana Syed Jalaludin Ansar Umari:
US-UK attack on Afghanistan open aggression. We condemn every sort of
terrorism whether perpetrated by a person or a State and favour its total
eradication. Though US President George Bush had said that he will search
Osama whom he believes to be responsible for the terror strikes and will
not harm the civilians and common men, but it is unfortunate that he
failed to keep his promise and attacked Afghanistan without even waiting
for the nod from the Security Council. Due to its pathetic past record the
US is hated in large parts of the world. Taliban have every right to
defend their country from any aggression.
Syed Sadatullah Husaini, president of Students Islamic Organization of
India (SIO): The US attacks on civilian population in Afghanistan should
be condemned as anti-humanity and unlawful. These attacks are against the
wishes of common people around the world. Neither the Security Council nor
the UN has sanctioned these attacks which are latest example of the
oppression and exploitation of poor countries by powerful countries of the
world. All peace-loving people should unanimously denounce these serious
excesses.
Imam of Jama Masjid Delhi Maulana Ahmad Bukhari: US aggression on
Afghanistan is a war against Islam. The US should be ready to face the
consequences. The terror against innocent people should be condemned by
one and all.
Maulana Syed Asad Madani, president, Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind: The attack on
Afghanistan is regrettable. The attack on WTC was a form of non-official
terrorism, the US attack on Afghanistan is State terrorism. The US,
without offering proof is bent upon attacking Afghanistan and killing
every perception of established moral and democratic norms.
Mufti Mukarram, Imam of Fatehpuri Masjid, Delhi: The attack on Afghanistan
is State terrorism. The UN should stop these strikes immediately. Muslims
should keep patience. The US aggressor will have to face consequences.
Muhammad Azam Khan, chairman of Minorities Forum and Rajya Sabha MP: The
US attacks on Afghanistan are a form of State terrorism and crime against
the whole humanity. Were the common people and civilians not targets, the
US would have never dropped food in that improvised county along with
cluster bombs and Cruise missiles.
Maulana Abdul Wahab Khilji, general secretary of Markazi Jamiat
Ahle-Hadith: The US action in Afghanistan is an act of aggression. This is
a living example of the US terrorism.
Maulana Maqsud Ali Khan, president All India Sunni Jamiat Ulama, Yaseen
Akhtar Misbahi, chairman All India Muslim Mushawarati Board and Muhammad
Saeed Noori, general secretary of Raza Academy: We condemn the US strikes
in Afghanistan. These attacks are unwarranted. The US is attacking
Afghanistan in pursuit of just one person. If the US has proofs against
the culprits, then it should present the proof and file a case with UN
against them.
GM Banatwala, MP and Indian Union Muslim League president: The US
aggression in Afghanistan is a severe blow to international charters of
human rights and international laws. The attacks on US were cruel and no
one should favour such actions but breaking international laws and norms
of justice are no less a crime. q |
