Temple troops return to basics
The
home minister’s defence of open violation of Supreme Court order by the
Vishwa Hindu Parishad following 17 October incident when VHP leaders along
with a large number of cadres forced their way inside the makeshift
structure erected on the site of the Babri Masjid, has baffled all. Nobody
seems to be able to imbibe the way the home minister has gone out of the
way to defend the lawlessness being committed by the Sangh outfits around
the country.
The VHP leaders’ forced entry inside the sanctum sanctorum in the
makeshift structure in Ayodhya on 17 October has not only amazed the
common people but also the legal fraternity as well. What has amazed them
more is the way the home minister has gone out to defend this utter
violation of the law of the land and open apex court orders.
The legal fraternity has been shocked by this grave breach of law by a
front-line Hindu extremist organization. They have condemned the act and
said that the law will certainly take notice of the high handed attitude
of the VHP leaders.
Mushtaq Ahmad Alig, a Supreme Court advocate told this correspondent that
the VHP people have been emboldened so much after the Babri demolition
that they do not take the courts of law seriously. He said that their
repeated assertions that they will start construction after 12 March and
will not care for court verdict if it goes against them, clearly shows to
what extent they are ready to go for their mean interests. He added that
people like Ashok Singhal and Giri Raj Kishore and all other saffron
leaders are doing everything illegal with impunity.
Meanwhile, OP Sharma, a Supreme Court lawyer, who is fighting the Babri
cases for the last more than one decade told this correspondent that he is
going to file a contempt of court notice against all those people who were
involved in 17 October incident. He said that the action was an open
breach of law and Supreme Court Order. He said that no one is allowed to
enter the sanctum sanctorum except one pujari who is to look after the
puja in the makeshift structure.
Sharma added that all those people who are allowed to go for darshan are
allowed darshan only from 40 feet distance. He said that if anyone goes
inside the structure except the official pujari and gets inside 40 feet
limit, he violates this apex court order. The senior apex court lawyer
says that it is a fit case for contempt and he will file the contempt case
against the people who entered the structure and stayed there for quite
some time.
Meanwhile the action has been decried from all political and religious
sides with Congress demanding the arrest of top VHP leaders for the
deliberate and defiant violation of law. Same demands have been made from
several other social and political organizations. Even the prime minister
is reported to have shown his displeasure over this hooliganism by his
people. Home minister too has said though half heartedly that it was not
the right time to involve in such actions. q |
