Ulama call for boycot of US goods
Jamiat
Ulama-i-Hind said that jurists of Darul Uloom and other Islamic
institutions have issued a 'Fatwa' proscribing the sale and purchase of
Anglo-American goods to protest US-led attacks on Afghanistan which they
described as an act of aggression against Muslims and Islam. The statement
said the violation of this fatwa shall amount to cooperation with the
aggression against Islam.
Over 500 Islamic scholars and jurists have appended their signatures to
the edict and more endorsements are being received from different parts of
the country.
It said the president of the Jamiat Maulana Asad Madani has appealed to
all just countries and organisations to raise their voice against US
action and the policies that are a threat to world peace, particularly in
West Asia and south-east Asia.
Ullama and heads of distinguished madrasas across India, in a joint
declaration, strongly condemned the savage and unjust military operations
of America and Britain against Afghanistan and described it as a clear and
naked proof of anti-Islamic attitude of America and its allies. The
statement stressed the fact that the present taken by the US and United
Nations fully expose the hypo-cracy of the American slogans of
safeguarding human rights and civilized society. Muslims are no longer
going to be impressed by their excuses. USA and Israel have themselves
exposed their ugly face by boycotting the Durban Conference against
racialism sponsored by the United Nations, the statement said.
In a forceful appeal to Muslims, the Ulama urged them not to get provoked
and lose patience but to openly and forcefully support the path of
righteousness and foil the plans of the enemies. In order to demonstrate
effective protest against America and Britain we should totally boycott
the products of these countries, especially Pepsi, Coca Cola, Colgate,
etc.
The statement further said that through such boycotts, the Third World
countries can weaken the tyranny and exploitation of America and its
allies and can rid the oppressed and innocent people of their tyranny.
In this way we can also stop the massacre of innocent people in the
Islamic world, particularly in Afghanistan. As a result Afro-Asian
countries can enjoy real independence and sovereignty, the statement said.
This statement has been issued by the following Ulama and heads of Muslim
educational institutions: Maulana Marghoobur Rahman, rector, Darul Uloom,
Deoband., Maulana Muhammad Salim Qasmi, rector, Darul Uloom, Deoband (Waqf),
