Awards: 1-15 November 2001

Peerzada Zahur Ilahi, a student of chemistry of Aligarh Muslim University, has been selected for the Best Science Student Award (in chemistry). His selection was recently made in the third All India Competition organized by National Foundation for Educational Development and NASSCOM. This award is instituted every year to the students for their outstanding performance in agriculture, botany, biotechnology, biochemistry, chemistry, physics, medicine and zoology. Many teachers expressed happiness over Peerzada getting the award.

Shahla Mass Communication India Pvt Ltd and monthly Mahfil-e-Sanam organised the yearly Sir Syed National Award ceremony on 17 October at Aiwan-e-Ghalib, New Delhi. The recipients of the award include Maulana Abdul Kareem Parekh, Dr S Farooq, Sirajuddin Quraishi, Jameel Ahmad Khan, Dr Jawed Ali Khan, Hakim Abdul Hannan, Qamar Raees, Bashir Badr and Asghar Wajahat.

Asrar Akbarabadi was presented Alam Fatehpuri Award for his contribution to Urdu poetry in a function held by Anjuman Mohibban-e-Urdu and sponsored by Bazm-e-Maikash at Agra. A great number of renowned poets and connoisseurs of Urdu prose and poetry participated in the function and threw light on various aspects of the awardee’s literary work.
