|This refers to Firoz Bakht Ahmed's interview with Dr. Praveen Togadia of VHP.
At the outset, it must be understood that Praveen Togadia's 'Hinduism' is not the same as it is believed and practiced by majority of 'Hindu' gurus. Togadia as well as all Hindutvadis have hijacked a pristine philosophy that has been nurtured and imbibed over centuries with the noblest of human aspirations to search for the truth and spirituality. It perpetually remains a search and is highly individualised in its preferred form. There are sages and gurus, who in the quest for the eternal truth can easily identify with Islam's definitive concepts of monotheism and spirituality.
However, opportunists like the Hindutvadis have taken undue advantage of the free form of spiritual quest in Hindu traditions to inject their own brand of 'Islamic fundamentalism' in a seemingly distorted attempt to follow Swami Vivekananda's invitation for a new blending of 'Brahmin brains and Islamic body'.
As RSS thinkers' motives were less than noble and more hate-driven, the result of their endeavours is marked by the worst excesses of both the callings. It is not insignificant that when BJP's Venkaiah Naidu intends to put down VHP, it accuses them of 'Islamic fundamentalism'.
To rule a country and ensure equal justice and welfare to its people is one of the noblest form of human endeavour. However, when greed for power, material wealth, revenge and hate, drive a group of opportunists to claim higher ground, the results cannot fool many in this land of unique native intelligence. Though Sangh Parivar may cleverly try to overload itself with the coverings from great names like Ram, Buddha, Mahavira, Guru Nanak and Mahatma Gandhi, it cannot hide its nakedness.
Dr. Tagodia should first take 'maun vrat' for an extended time; strive to serve some guru that is willing to purge him of all hate, and then study Islam.
If he feels he is true Hindu, he should know that this life span is very limited and there will be a reckoning. He should prepare for those days.
