Assassination attempt on Imam

New Delhi: Two unknown assailants shot at Umeed Ali, Imam of Bismilla Masjid in Loni’s Ashok Vihar Colony, New Delhi on 20 October. The Imam, in a critical condition, was admitted to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital. As soon as the news spread, thousands of agitated people took to the streets, blocked the Delhi-Saharanpur Road and shouted slogans against the administration and police in front of the police station. Some unsocial elements clashed with the passers-by which led to stampede and further tension.

Immediately after getting the information, City SP, Umesh Kumar Shrivastav with his force reached the spot and prevented the situation from deteriorating further. Later on DM and SSP also reached there. Police patrol continued throughout the night in the area. The city SP assured that every thing was under control and that mischievous elements will not be allowed to spoil the situation.

Meanwhile, vigorous efforts are on to arrest the culprits and many suspected persons have been detained. q
