Strong insensitivity of Muslim
|We came to know through Sayed Shahabuddin’s letter of 16 September the news that with the issue of December 2002 and completion of twenty years, the publication of the monthly ‘Muslim India’ will be discontinued because of scarcity of financial resources.
‘Muslim India’ is not run-of-the-mill type of magazine. It is a documentary periodical of the conditions and problems of the minorities of the Indian republic with the help of which future historians will be able to write history based on genuine and factual positions of social, economic and political life of Muslims. Muslim India has been rendering great humanitarian services regularly and punctually for the last twenty years but in spite of all this it has not been able to secure even a room of its own to serve as permanent office. The spokesman of the nation had been moving from one place to another.
It is a matter of great pity that Muslims have become totally oblivious of the value and importance of their true leaders and intellectuals and insensitive to their services, sacrifices and respect. Not to talk of books and magazines, even newspapers are not an essential part of their lives. Mushairas and qawwalis have though virtually stopped, the community and nation is not even able to understand its good and bad, advantages and disadvantages. Muslims spend excessively on unnecessary functions, ceremonies and entertainments but do not realise the value and importance of our great benefactors, intellectuals and genuine leaders who want to extricate us from humiliation and depth of disgrace and give us a position of strength and respect. All of us are not poor and helpless. There are thousands and lakhs amongst us who have far in excess of their requirements and luxuries. Bounties of God are no doubt His trusts which should be spent for the good and exaltation of the community and nation.
Muslims must now wake up and come to their senses. Demolition of Babri Masjid and genocide of Muslims in Gujarat are no longer guessworks but established facts and repetition of such events throughout the country is being declared at the beat of drums. Under such circumstances we pray to God to enable the Umma to march forward on the path of regeneration and renaissance and ‘Muslim India’ and other such magazines and newspapers should continue with all glory and grandeur.
