Harassment of Imams, workers
Aligarh: State secretary of All India
Milli Council (AIMC), Muhammad Qamar Alam has said that complaints are
frequently being received from different parts of the country that imams
of various mosques, Muslim social workers and others, particularly youth,
are being harassed by police and officers of district administration and
secret agencies on the pretext of ‘investigations.’ They are also
being threatened that if they indulge in criticism against America, Sangh
Parivar or government, they will be put behind bars. On the other hand, he
said, constituent organisations of Sangh Parivar are taking out
processions on one pretext or the other in which arms are being openly
displayed and provocative slogans are being raised but no action is being
taken against them as they enjoy government backing.
He further said that the recent communal riots in Gonda were the result of
government policy of leniency which encourages these elements who, during
a procession, had used vehicles which were already loaded with stones,
bricks and arms which were freely used. q |
