|In view of my own personal experiences and logical observations, the just concluded agitation of Jamiatul-Ulama-e-Hind (JUH) which was totally a non-event for the national mainstream media, has given birth to certain questions in my mind, and I being a Muslim, feel myself entitled to seek their clarification from this so-called Muslim organisation's chief His Holiness Maulana Asad Madani. I am sure, he would not feel any offence at these questions because transparency of character is the most essential Islamic requirement.
About a year after joining Shia College, at Lucknow as Lecturer in Law in 1976, I, being totally unaware of JUH’s antecedents and political camouflage, obtained its membership at the insistence of Zafaryab Jeelani, convener of Babri Masjid Action Committee.
It was during the prime ministership of Chowdhry Charan Singh, that the JUH launched a countrywide Mulk-o-Millat Bachao Tehreek (Save nation and community campaign). When Maulana Asad Madani came to Lucknow as a part of his mass mobilization programme and highlighted the atrocities against Muslims, I had the privilege to be amongst the select audience at his office. On the conclusion of his address when he invited questions, I stood up and said, “the atrocities against Muslims are nothing new, but I have never seen you launching such an agitation. What is extraordinary during the regime of Charan Singh which has inspired you for such a move?” The Maulana angrily retorted, “If a person has not offered namaz for twenty five years and wants to offer it now, would you throw him out of the mosque?” The answer left me speechless and I had to sit down with an apology for that audacious behaviour.
However, I enlisted myself for courting arrest, and in the first batch of about seventy persons, reached Delhi.
After some time the government of Chowdhry Charan Singh collapsed, Mrs Indira Gandhi came to power and Maulana Asad Madani was nominated to Rajya Sabha. When about more than one year expired, and as I recollect some communal riots also took place in some parts of the country, I did not hear anything from the Maulana. I wrote him a strong-worded letter, reminding him of my question at Lucknow and telling him that perhaps the most important hidden demand in the whole agitation was his nomination to Rajya Sabha and once it was fulfilled, he had lost all concern about the Muslim community. The letter remains unanswered till date.
About two years back, on the eve of the biennial Rajya Sabha elections, Maulana Asad Madani organised a big convention at Christian College ground, Lucknow in protest against the controversial Religious Places Bill, passed by the UP Assembly. About one lakh persons, mainly from the madrasahs of many districts participated in it. It was a most shameful sight for any conscientious Muslim to see that on about ten feet high stage, Arjun Singh, the senior Congress leader was ensconced in a stately chair and our top clergy class sitting under his feet. Lakhs of people saw that despicable scene and crores might have witnessed it on the television. I was also included in the list of speakers but I declined. The major portion of Maulana Asad Madani's speech was replete with profuse eulogies for Congress and Mrs Sonia Gandhi. Regrettably, the whole façade turned into a fiasco for him, when despite of all these histrionics, he could not be endowed with a Rajya Sabha seat.
The just concluded Mulk-o-Millat Bachao Tehreek, which had the hidden agenda of 'Mujhe ya mere bete ko Rajya Sabha ka member banao' (make me or my son the member of Rajya Sabha) too was planned on the eve of biennial Rajya Sabha elections, but once again to the agony of Maulana, it has ended in utter failure.
Why Maulana Asad Madani remembers the atrocities against Muslims only on the eve of every Rajya Sabha election. The real bane of the community is rooted in these dual characters. If he is a Congress man and his exclusive mission is meant for retaining a Rajya Sabha berth, he must come forward before the Muslim community, with the Congress flag in one hand and the portrait of Sonia Gandhi in the other. May I ask him how long he and others of his ilk will keep on playing deception and fraud on this hapless community. Does he ever think that a Day will come when he will be showing his face to our Saviour Mohammad Sallalaho Alaihe Wasallam and be accountable to Allah, the Omnipotent, the Omniscient and the Omnipresent?
