Innocent Muslim killed by police in custody
In Hyderabad, 55- year-old Mirza Mohammed Zahedullah Baig died after he was beaten up by Inspector ITV Surya Narayana at Falaknuma police station on November 15.
Baig, a resident of Jahanuma, was summoned to the police station in connection with a complaint of harassment. He went to the police station with his brother-in-law Noor, a traffic police constable. Baig was put in the lock up. In the meantime a police agent approached Baig's family and offered to settle the matter for Rs 10,000. The offer was turned down.
Back in the police station, the inspector slapped Baig many times and pushed him around. He was fasting at the time. He fell down and fainted. Noor rushed him to a local hospital where a doctor said his pulse was weak and referred him to Osmania General Hospital where he was declared brought dead. Hyderabad City Police commissioner has ordered judicial inquiry into this incident.
This is the one example of police torture in a state whose chief minister inaugurates one human rights seminar after another while miserably failing to control his own police force.
