'In which madrasa training for
subversion is imparted?'
UP chief minister unable to reply
|Chief Minister Ram Prakash Gupta, while touring the backward district of Siddharth Nagar in mid-October, inaugurated several dams and development projects. Without saying anything in his public speech about people’s problems and their solutions, he confined himself to ISI and SIMI only. He specifically targeted SIMI and accused it of complicity in anti-national and subversive activities. He claimed that people are playing in the hands of the enemy. He expressed his concern over the increasing activities of foreigners on the borders and declared that he has sent a report regarding SIMI to the centre. When the journalists asked him about the ISI and SIMI in his press conference, he avoided giving replies to their questions or remained silent. He was asked, for example, to name one madrasa on the Indo-Nepal border where training for terrorism is imparted, or persons who are agents of the ISI in the border areas. In the face of a spate of such questions, the chief minister either kept silent or avoided them by talking about other matters.
