Sunni Cultural Centre anniversary celebrations

|The three-day annual conference of Markazus Saquafathil Sunniyya was held on 3-5 November at Karanthur in Calicut. The 23rd anniversary celebration and 10th convocation of the Markaz began with a massive procession of Sunni activists and students. The Markaz founder, Kanthapuram Abubacker Musliyar and other well-known scholars led the procession.
Thousands of Muslims from various districts of the state and even from the north Indian states participated in the rally and attended the conference which concluded on 5 Nov. evening. People started to pour into the town on the first day to attend various seminars held at the Markaz. Delegates from West Asian countries include Sheikh Mohammed Hassan Shahad Al Yamani, Dr AIA Majeed Al Rifaee, Adil Abdul Wahab Al Musharraf, Mohammad Mubarak Assuri, Abdurahman Rashid Al Haqan and Suleiman Mazrook Ashthi.
The former Union Law Minister Ram Jethmalani was one of the chief guests, who attended the communal harmony meet. In his opening address, Jethmalani emphasized the need for unity and harmony of different communities in the country, in the wake of raising tide of religious fundamentalism and atrocities on minorities. He accused some historians who distorted the Muslim rulers in India as promoters of communal violence. He praised the role played by the Muslim kings in medieval India, who had been propagators of Islamic message of universal brotherhood and communal harmony. He also pointed out that it was the early Arab Muslims who prompted the renaissance movement and the enlightenment of Europe which was steeped in Dark Age.
The seminar on minorities was inaugurated by Local Administration Minister, Paloli Mohammed Kutty and the Wakf Board Chairman, Prof. K.A. Jaleel presided.
In his key-note address, All India Sunni Jamiyyathul Ulema general secretary, Kanthapuram Abubacker Musliyar condemned the policy of the US and its allies who are supporting Israeli atrocities against the Palestinians. He appealed the Umma to rise to the occasion and support the fighting brothers of Islam in Palestine and other parts of the world.
The president of the Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama, Syed Abdurehman Al Bukhari inaugurated the public meeting which marked the conclusion of the conference.
