New archbishop for Delhi
|Rev. Vincent Concessao was installed as the new archbishop of Delhi on 19 November. He succeeded late archbishop Alan De Lastic who died a few months ago in a car accident in France.
The over five-hours program in St. Columbus School ground was attended by more than 12000 people including bishops, priests, nuns of various churches of new Delhi and other devotees. Rev. father was given his oath of loyalty and secrecy by a representative of the Pope John Paul II, Archbishop Lorenzo Baldisseri.
The new archbishop of Delhi Diocese in his first address to the people said, ' I accept this responsibility with the trust that in this millennium we will be able to communicate despite all our diversity and have a fruitful dialogue'. A day before the installation the archbishop had said that, 'Violence is a sign of our instability to act like human beings. It is a sign of moral bankruptcy.'
Concessao whose installation had seen a bitter war for the post of archbishop between different catholic group said that, ' We will continue with what is our main work-evangelization in all its forms. We will take up any challenge that we confront on the way. We have to reach out to a varied section of people and relate to them.' He has also said that we have to give a Christian perspective to the entire problem. Our main focus remains evangelization. We have to spread the massage of equality, justice, peace and development.
The new archbishop later in a press conference said that he wants to involve Sangh Parivar in a dialogue to see why they feel so much animosity for Christians and other minority communities. He added that minority bashing of the Sangh Parivar will not be in favour of the country. He further said that he would like to erase Sangh Parivar's misconceptions about the Christian community.
