Finally, a call for the Babri trio...
|The Justice Liberhan Commission of inquiry set up to probe the demolition of Babri Masjid has asked Union Home Minister LK Advani, Union Human Resource Development Minister Murli Manohar Joshi and the then prime minister PV Narasimha Rao to appear before it. The Commission has called the trio to depose before it as witnesses. The Commission is already recording the statement of Uma Bharati, union minister for sports and youth affairs. The three ministers have been chargesheeted by the Central Bureau of Investigation for their role in the demolition of what they call the ‘disputed structure.’
It is a big breakthrough as the Commission had said earlier that it will not call anyone till former chief minister of UP Kalyan Singh appears before it. But Kalyan Singh has not appeared before the court on one pretext or the other.
The Commission headed by the Justice MS Liberhan has also asked the chief secretary of Maharashtra and Mumbai Police Commissioner to produce records related to the subject matter on or before 15 December.
In the meantime several political parties have demanded the government to sack the three union ministers who have been asked to appear before the court. They have demanded that when union and Gujarat ministers accused in 1985 riots can be asked to step down, why these three ministers in the centre are not directed to do the same.
