Kashmir: total chaos as masses suffer
By Nasir Hussain Peerzadah, Srinagar
|Despite tall official claims there is nothing which could be termed as ‘normal’ in the valley. Lawlessness, anarchy and misrule are prevailing all around. Proper governance is altogether absent. The oblivious of the plight of the ordinary people Chief Minister Dr. Farooq is enjoying his prodigal and lavish life style. He is absolutely mishandling the governance. The masses are suffering. Basic amenities of life are denied to them. People are extremely disgruntled. The state coffers are empty as funds have been misappropriated or wasted on unnecessary works.
Dr. Farooq is caught in the snare of his own devices. He is begging for an economic package for the state but this time things have not been easy for him. Authorities in New Delhi are perhaps well aware of the prodigal ways of Dr Farooq. Consequently he is being taught a lesson by the Centre.
State employees too are up in arms, they have again given the call to lock up the offices. They are fighting for their legitimate rights which they have been denied to them so far.
Sham elections once again proved a fiasco and failed to provide stability to the strife-stricken region. The elections were merely a staged drama conducted to deceive the international community. The so-called ‘elected’ members have no laison with the general public. There is a wide gulf between rulers and masses. People are fed up by the callous attitude of the authorities. There is a strong resentment among the people against the Farooq regime.
On the military front, Indian troops are demoralized after attacks on the Badamibah Army head quarter. Similar attacks were carried out in Baramulla and Sopore. Actions of this sort were unprecedented, quick, calculated and well-targeted. In retaliation, Indian troops have come hard on ordinary citizens. People are subjected to frequent parading and crackdowns in the sub zero temperatures prevailing presently. Militants are now more aggressive than ever, equipped with sophisticated weaponry.
Leaders of APHC are behind the bars and reportedly subjected to torture. In his latest message, the ‘supreme commander’ of Hizbul Mujahiddin (a pro-Pakistan organisation) has ruled out any ‘Oslo’ type of solution to the Kashmir tangle.
