NO PEACE UNDER ISRAELI OCCUPATION
By Zafarul-Islam Khan
|Zionist occupation forces have once again proved to the whole world that there will be no peace in the Holy Land as long as it remains under Israeli occupation. Ever since 28 September the occupation forces are on a murderous rampage killing dozens of innocent people and maiming and wounding thousands. They have even killed Israeli Arab citizens who protested against the zionist high-handedness which included an attempt to kill the leader of the Islamic movement in Israel, Shaikh Raed Salah. During these attacks the brave Israelis faced their defenceless victims with anti-tank missiles, live ammunition, plastic-coated steel bullets and tear gas.
The bloodshed began on Thursday, 28 September, after the Israeli war criminal, General Ariel Sharon, forced his way into Jerusalem’s Al-Haram Al-Sharif, one of Islam's three holiest sites, to show that it belongs to the Jews. The war criminal was accompanied by 1,000 heavily armed occupation troops. Palestinians protesting this provocation were brutally suppressed by the occupying army all over the West Bank and Gaza as well as inside the so-called ‘green line,’ i.e., the areas occupied during 1948-49.
In one of the most horrifying scenes, 12-year old Muhammad Al-Durra was shot dead in cold blood by an Israeli sniper, while his father, Jamal, was trying to protect him from the hail of Israeli bullets [see page 13]. A Palestinian ambulance driver, Bassam al-Bilbeisi, who attempted to rescue the two was also shot dead by the Israeli sniper.
It is worth recalling that Ariel Sharon was the mastermind behind Israel's 1982 invasion of Lebanon, which claimed more than 20,000 Palestinian and Lebanese lives, and the notorious massacres of thousands of defenceless Palestinian men, women and children at the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps in Lebanon.
In October 1990, occupation forces massacred 17 worshippers at the Haram Al-Sharif, and again stormed the compound in September 1996, following protests against the opening of an Israeli tunnel near the same Muslim holy site. Fifty-nine Palestinians were killed at that time.
The events of the recent days have clearly shown that there will never be peace in the region as long as Israeli forces occupy Jerusalem. Israel is the source of all tension, instability and insecurity in the whole region. It is propped by western powers exactly for this function.
