Ali Miyan awarded posthumously

Ali MianMaulana Abul Hasan Ali Nadwi (Ali Mian) was posthumously awarded the first Shah Waliullah Dehlawi Award on 3 November in a ceremony in New Delhi organized by the Institute of Objective Studies Delhi. Maulana Syed Muhammad Rabey Hasani Nadawi received the award on behalf of his late uncle. The award consists of Rs 0.1 million and a felicitation.

Former chief justice Ahmadi said that Ali Mian was a great personality and he received innumerable awards from all over the world. He disclosed that it was decided to award the first Shah Waliullah Dehlawi award to the late scholar in his lifetime but it couldn't materialize. 'I would have felt overjoyed if this award would have been given while he was alive,' he said.

Maulana Rabey Hasani Nadawi, rector of Nadwatul Ulema Lucknow, said after receiving the award that Ali Mian never wanted to accept awards, but as he was a great admirer of Shah Waliullah Dehlawi, he would have loved to accept this award. It is the only reason that I have received this award on his behalf. The Maulana also appreciated the contributions of the Institute of Objective Studies which has constituted this award.

Qazi Mujahidul Islam Qasimi, president of All India Muslim Personal Law Board, threw light on the life of Shah Waliullah Dehlawi and added that this award will be given to a personality who deserved it. Qasimi said that the teachings of Shah influenced the Arab approach for centuries. He added that Shah Dehlawi brought together all Muslim factions.

IOS has proposed to give two scholarships each year in the memory of Maulana Ali Mian. Dr Manzoor Alam, chairman of the IOS, announced that the institute has established a fund for research on Ali Mian with an initial corpus of Rs 2.5 million.
