Mask speaketh...

Prime Minister AB VajpayeePrime minister AB Vajpayee, in the face of a fierce demand of opposition parties for the resignation of the Babri-tainted trio, LK Advani, MM Joshi and Uma Bharati, opened the floodgates of another controversy when he opined on 6 December that 'Ayodhya mein Ram mandir ka nirman rashtriya bhavana ke prakatikaran ka kam tha, jo abhi tak pura nahi hua hai' (the construction of the Ram temple at Ayodhya is an expression of national sentiment which is yet to be realized).

Vajpayee also claimed that Advani, Joshi, and Bharati went to Ayodhya to protect and not to demolish the mosque! He added that he was not justifying the demolition of the disputed structure. He also rejected the demand for the resignation of the trio who have been charge-sheeted by the CBI in the Babri case. Later, talking to journalists, the PM said 'it is important how the temple is constructed.' Vajpayee himself had earlier described the demolition as his party's 'worst miscalculation,' a 'misadventure.'
