|Uttar Pradesh CM's anti-Islam antics
By M J Akhter, Lucknow
Mr Ram Prakash Gupta, a Vajpayee prodigee and much-ridiculed Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for his style of functioning is increasingly turning anti-Islamic in his new avatar. Gupta, hitherto known as anti-Muslim for grossly ignoring the claims of Muslim officials and working against the interest of the community by taking controversial decisions has now started taking stance which clearly could be construed as anti-Islamic.
Being the choice of none other than Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee himself, the UP CM has in recent days emerged stronger. But beyond doubt Mr Gupta totally and fully lacks decency, decorum, discipline and manners of his mentor, ie, Vajpayee. An old guard of the RSS, Gupta's bias against Muslim officers is an open secret. He has crossed all previous limits. Under his regime not a single officer belonging to the minority community is posted in the districts or is any important post according to their seniority and experience.Clearly Mr Gupta is mindless of the fact that a democratic government functions with some decency and has to maintain certain decorum. Besides, compulsion also play some role in governance in order to save the public image of the administration. It was this reason due to which Gupta’s predecessor, Kalyan Singh, allowed posting of at least one officer at the district level.
Moreover, the UP CM has started encouraging people and publication besides doling them state funds who are not only cherishing but also propagating against Islam.
A recent special issue of the tri-monthly Vishwa Samwad Kendra Patrika magazine, on the subject of ‘Islamic Terrorism’ had all the content to instigate riots as the article not only portrayed Islam as a religion supporting terrorism but contains derogatory remarks about Prophet Hazrat Muhammad. The magazine not only enjoys the blessings of the chief minister in the form of a message, the much-talked special issue is full of advertisement from various government departments. The Vishwa Samwad Kendra is a known RSS institution. Its activities have geared much momentum of late because several of its members are holding important government posts and have great influence on the otherwise docile chief minister.
There are altogether 33 articles on the subjects, accommodated in the 100 pages and many of them are having vulgar, indecent and poisonous paragraphs. An article, titled ‘Islami Aatankwad aur Islam’ by one Ajay Mittal in his opening para says that Prophet Muhammad has entrusted two important jobs in his waseeyat- one to ensure that no non-Muslims stays in Arabia and the other to destroy the Hindustan, the citadel of Kufr.’
Mr Veerendra Singh Veeru in his article on ‘Islami aatankwad ke prerna srwot’, took much pain to portray an imaginary picture that Islam spread only on the basis of power. ‘Islam ke Itihaas ko yadi Aatanakwad ka itihaas kaha jai to anuchit nahi hoga...
‘Muhammad ne Kabe main rakhi moortiyon mein se ek ko chhor kar sabhi ko tor diya...yadi Muhammad chhahte to apne liye naveen Kaba banwa sakte the,’ thus goes on the article.
In his fulminating article, one Mr Vachnesh Tripathi has misquoted the Holy Qur'an to provoke the readers.
It is strange that only the chief minister's message to the magazine was encouraging the issue, compared to the messages from RSS chief KC Sudarshan and All-India Sewa Pramukh of the RSS Suryanarain
