New head for Rabita Al-Adab al-Islami

|Rabita Al-Adab al-Islami (World Forum of Islamic Literature) has unanimously elected Dr. Abdul Quddus Abu-Saleh its new president, a place which had fallen vacant following demise of Maulana Syed Abul Hasan Ali Nadwi (‘Ali Miyan’).
The election held in Madinah during the five-day 11th conference of Rabita which concluded on August 21 and was attended by eminent scholars from Morocco, Jordan, Egypt, Turkey, Malaysia, Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia, the host country.
The election, which was on the second day’s agenda had to be postponed for a day when Maulana Muhammad Rabey Hasani Nadwi, rector of Nadwatul-Ulama, Lucknow and nephew of Maulana Ali Miyan persisted in his request that being senior Vice-President Dr.Quddus should adorn the post. The delegates had earlier suggested the nomination of Maulana Rabeh for the post, but he humbly declined, saying Dr.Quddus in-charge of Arabic and Europe section deserved the elevation.
As per the communication received from Madina, Dr.Quddus became very emotional after his elevation to the new post and lavishly eulogised the great qualities of Maulana Ali Miyan and praised the love and affection shown by Maulana Rabey Nadwi, his successor in the world fame Islamic Institution of Nadwa.
The new president later appointed Maulana Muhammad Rabey Nadwi as senior Vice-President of the world body and in-charge of the region of India, Bangladesh, Pakistan,Indonesia and Malaysia. Dr.Abdul Basit was appointed Vice-President and in-charge of Arab and African region.
Dr. Hasan Imrani of Morocco took over as the new general secretary and Maulana Wazeh Rashid Nadwi, head of Arabic literature in Nadwa college, as assistant general secretary of the Rabita Al-Adab Al-Islami. This was the first conference in the absence of its founder Maulana Ali Miyan.
‘Children's Literature’ is the theme on which the Asian region's three-day conference of the Rabita is going to be held in Bhatkal, Karnataka next October.
